Don’t Leave Fairway without These Classic Holiday Favorites

The clock is tick tick ticking…Christmas is nearly here! We believe your holiday table should be abundant with the best of the best. This is THE time of year to bring out the very finest, and to generously share deliciousness with those you love.

It would take way more time and space than we have here to chronicle all the fabulous, special, tasty finds stacked high in the aisles of Fairway. So I’ve arbitrarily selected a few holiday-ish things I love. There are many, many more and I hope they make your way to your holiday feast!

Some last-minute holiday shopping inspiration:

Prosciutto di Parma

Air-dried for 20 months in the breezes of the Alps. The finest ham and perfect curing yields the ultimate gorgeous savory flavor. One one the great gustatory pleasures of the universe.

Prosciutto San Daniele

The prosciutto from San Daniele is sweet with a full, haunting bouquet. Shave thin and enjoy with bread, grissini, fresh soft cheese, to let its delicate, perfect flavor shine.

La Quercia Prosciutto Rosa

La Quercia (Pronounced KWARE-chah) is Italian for “the oak” – referring to the acorns upon which the humanely raised, veggie-fed heritage pigs feast. Herb and Kathy Eckhouse cure wonderfully fine meats that easily match the best Emilia-Romagna has to offer.

USDA Prime Rib Roast

The best for your holiday table, at the absolute best price…that’s right, our prime rib is on crazy-great sale. Our talented butchers select, butcher, and trim your meat. Incredible prices and value on quality that blows away those other grocery stores.

You will never serve anything as majestic, celebratory, decadent and delicious as a USDA prime rib roast. Your holidays table demands the best–get ready for full-on-juiciness and fantastically tender meat perfection.

Emporio Gourme’ Goodies

Fairway has imported lots of jars of grilled preserved vegetables from an artisan in Milano, Italy.  They are beyond superb.  They are a celebration.  Serve them with all manner of antipasto, with toasts and cheeses and cured meats.  These big fat jars are hand-crammed with extraordinary examples of Italian onions, sweet peppers, Prataioli mushrooms, tomatoes and Roman-style artichokes.

So tiny and easily pocketed! So peelable, sweet, juicy, and perfect. Each segment bursts with flavor. A big bowl of bright orange clementines is a simple, beautiful centerpiece. Snack away, add to salads, toss in couscous, or whip up a clementine cocktail.

Classic Holiday Cookie Boxes

A wonderful gift: Gorgeous cookies are made from our tried and true recipes, with the highest quality of ingredients and the care and love of our great team of bakers. Impossible not to fall in love.

Yule Log

What proper bakery would go through a holiday season without a Yule log in its front case? The Yule log cake (or bûche de Noël for French speakers) is a beautiful creation– a rolled, filled sponge cake, frosted with chocolate buttercream. Merry Christmas.

Boquete Hacienda La Esmeralda

100% Geisha coffee from Hacienda La Esmeralda, Boquete Panama, a small, sustainable family operation in the lush mountains of western Panama where only perfectly ripe, red coffee fruit is handpicked.  The aroma is floral, like fresh blossoms in springtime. Sip away.

Moliterno with Truffles

This dense, crumbly, marmoreal-looking tractor-trailer wheel comes to us straight from Sardinia. Check out the imprint–that comes from having been born inside handmade esparto grass baskets. Unlike most truffled cheeses, the wheels age for about 6 months before being infused with pure black truffle paste, so that the cheese develops loads of character and depth. And the truffle! The embodiment of luxury. This cheese deserves its following. Serve it with a few of the 600 cheeses at your Fairway cheese counter!

Cara Cucina Garlic Artichoke Spread

This stuff made us famous. Real small-batch hand-made Genovese spread. Smooth as silk. Dip and slather away. Toss with pasta. Scrape the jar ALL the way clean. Available online!

Panettone & StollenDresden Stollen

Nothing says Christmas like Stollen: dense fruitcake laced with citrus zest, raisins, nuts, and spice. Historians trace Stollen back to the year 1400 in Dresden, Germany. Baked with perfectionism, love, and care. A thick slice with a cup of tea makes a great breakfast, afternoon snack, surreptitious nibble, or satisfying dessert…and a great gift, too.

Belberry Chocolate “Satongo” Chocolate Spread!

The flavors of tart Clementine and deep chocolate make a beautifully blended, decadent sauce.  Full-bodied “Satongo” chocolate is crafted from a blend of cocoa beans cultivated in three African countries: Sao Tome, Ghana, and Tanzania. A Fairway exclusive. Check out online.

We wish you happy, healthy, and delicious holidays, from our family to yours.
