Celebrate Fall with Somethin’ Pumpkin at Fairway

Pumpkin PiePumpkin season is here in full swing, and we’re surrounded by pumpkins…which is a pretty great place to be.

Pumpkin’s deep orange flesh and sweet flavor make it a wonderful food for the fall table. Canned pumpkin is easy to use and always available, but fresh pumpkin is worth the extra prep for real, unique pumpkin flavor. Pumpkin pie is but the tip of the pumpkin iceberg.

Pumpkin and Roasted Pumpkin SeedsPumpkin is a wonderful ingredient in both sweet and savory dishes. Take home a big, orange seasonal squash and try your hand at one of them. It’s great roasted, stir-fried, in creamy pumpkin soup, cooked into chili, and baked into muffins. Or simply pan fry and toss with Fairway pasta sauce. Toast the seeds in the oven for a great, healthy snack. Pumpkin is rich in vital antioxidants, beta carotene, vitamin A, minerals, and fiber. A total superfood.

While you’re at it, pick up a pumpkin treat from your Fairway. Here are some pumpkin picks. They’ll put you in a cozy autumnal mood–guaranteed!

Fairway Pumpkin Soup

Thank you, Fairway Deli, for cooking up this slow-simmered goodness. A perfect fall meal, this is an intensely pumpkin-flavored, silky soup accented with brown butter and paprika. A hint of brown sugar adds sweetness; pepper sauce lends a kick.

Fairway Pumpkin Spice Coffee

Warm and spicy, vibrant fall flavors brighten this medium-bodied sweet mug of coffee, conjuring images of crisp crimson leaves and brisk breezy days. Crafted from 100% Arabica beans that are slowly roasted to a rich medium brown shade, this brew has pronounced notes of cinnamon before yielding to a softly acidic finish. Get a bag online!

The Republic Of Pumpkin Spice Tea

Pumpkin pie in a cup! Cozy up with this warm, fragrant blend of fine black tea and autumnal spices –cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves.

Fairway Pumpkin Muffins

These all-natural, super-tasty pumpkin muffins are made with highest quality ingredients…mostly, with lots of pumpkin.  They have no butter, only canola oil, and are scented with cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.  We make the mix fresh in our Stamford store, and the bakeries bake them each morning. Stop by early and your pumpkin muffin will still be warm. PS Fairway Pumpkin Cheesecake? So good it’s scary. I cant stop eating it. I just can’t.

Spanish Valencian Grape Must Jelly with Pumpkin

Arrope i Tallaetes is a blend of syrupy-sweet grape must and candied pumpkin. This mysteriously fabulous condiment was first brought by the Moors to Spain, and you absolutely need this in your culinary arsenal.

We braise and deglaze with it (vegetables — chard, endive, onions, cabbage, kale — seafood, meats (pork chops & tenderloins, steaks) poultry; we spoon it atop soft, white cheeses (ricotta salata, young pecorino toscano, manchego); we add it to pan-fried potatoes & onions, to risotto; we spoon it over sorbets; we spread it on crusty bread with chunks of the pumpkin.

And So Much More

Don’t forget to pick up fresh pumpkin ravioli, in the refrigerated case of our cheese department. And a pumpkin pie from our bakery, because it is classic for very good reason, and because we do incredible work with pie. Wash it all down with Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale or Woodchuck Private Reserve Hard Cider in Pumpkin. Cheers!
