Fairway’s Own Former NBA Star Tom Hoover Gives Back to the Sandy Hook Community

You knew Fairway had killer smoked salmon, baguettes, and prime meat. But we bet you didn’t know we have our very own basketball legend.

You might have seen Tom Hoover’s warm smile around your local Fairway–at 6’9″, he’s not easy to miss. A forward/center from Villanova University, Hoover–around Fairway, he’s known as Hoover–played in the NBA from 1963 to 1967 as a member of the New York Knicks and St. Louis Hawks.

For the last 20 years, Hoover has represented his community in a different way, as VP of Community Affairs at Fairway. It’s a perfect way for him to satisfy his passion for giving back. Hoover’s also a proud member of the of The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA), and the prez of the NYC metropolitan chapter.

Hoover represented the NBRPA and Fairway Market  this past Tuesday, August 6–hosting a basketball and life skills clinic for 100 elementary school kids in Sandy Hook and Newtown, Conn. “I love doing this.” Hoover says, “you have to bring positive energy. It keeps me active and it keeps me young.

These children have been through unspeakable tragedy, and we were thrilled to be able to bring them some smiles and fun. Watch Hoover and the young basketball-stars-to-be in action!
